Daily news from TheGreenHub.ca / Dec. 21

The new municipal councils in The Green Hub have less than a month under their belts. Usually, you would expect some growing pains, and new councillors to be slow out of the gate.
In Brantford, however, in a surprise turn of events – that old bug-a-boo  – council last night managed to spice things up as we head into the new year. Coming off a less-than-successful run involving developers leaving the area after a rash of native protests, Brantford now is looking at another potentially controversial  development in the city’s northeast corner – a 100-suite hotel and conference centre and construction of research and education facilities for green technologies.
Those and other details were divulged in a surprise move near the end of Monday’s city council meeting, which included approval of a conditional sale of 23 acres of land at Garden Avenue near Sinclair Boulevard, plus a confidential staff report being made public. Taxpayers can only hope this is the beginning of a new transparency, and the fact that there is a green element in the mix is an even better sign.
But the fun has certainly started again.
In other news in The Green Hub, David Suzuki comments on the proliferation of Christmas lighting and Norwich councillors end up sitting on the fence when it comes to wind turbine development.
Meanwhile, the Jarvis Country Market is preparing for Phase 2 of its expansion.
And, finally, find out why the future of Christmas lights in Dunnville is in jeopardy.
