Lake Erie walleye rebound and … Tarzan would be jealous

THIS WAS not supposed to happen: Pickerel, or walleye, are no longer in decline in Lake Erie. Estimates now show that this year’s allowable catch by commercial and sport fishermen could increase by nearly one-third, something biologists never saw coming … pickerel has made a comeback in Lake Erie, much to the surprise of biologists.

…. An initiative to cut down on reptile roadkill on the Long Point causeway has apparently succeeded … and then some. According to monitoring during the past three years, the decline has been startling – a whopping 62 per cent. Much of the credit goes to the installation of fencing which steers snakes and turtles into safer passageways …..
